Every year, IISc opens its gates to the public on Open day. Providing a sneak peek on the cutting edge research going on in the labs of various departments in IISc. In order to consolidate and simplify the work in going various departments and to invoke the curiosity among the budding brains of the nation a separate platform was created for the young audience called as “Kids’ Zone”.The concept was to have a common platform where basic school level science experiments are demonstrated by students from different departments. So far, we have organized Kids’ zone 4 times, starting from 2017, Since its establishment Kids’ Zone has evolved to be one of the major attractions of during Open day

Kids' Zone 2020

Kids Zone 2020 happened to be one of the major attractions during the Open day (February, 2020). Introduction of three zones namely: Junior, Middle and Senior level ensured that the kids got to see the experiments relevant to their age group. There were even demonstrations showing how the (then) upcoming corona virus affected the human body. The demonstrations in kids zone ensured that the students would be aware about the latest development in science in simplest and most exciting way. As an example, we were able to demonstrate and warn how Covid-19 would affect the human body back before it was recognised as such a wide spread phenomenon.

Kids' Zone 2019

With the experience gained over 2 years, we organized Kids’ Zone during Open day 2019. Kids zone rose by 2019 had gained popularity and became one of the most attractive and crowd pulling events of the Open dayfor IISc. In order to manage the crowd we had then decided to divide the area into two separate categories: Junior and Senior. A total of around 3000 kids visited the KZ arena.

Kids' Zone 2018

Following the grand success of KZ 2017, we organized Kids’ Zone 2018 the following year as well. The venue remained the same, near Old aerospace building, opposite to the Choksi Hall. Volunteers from various departments gathered to make this event possible with even more exciting and thought provoking experiments. Snaps from the event are available in the gallery below.

Kids’ Zone was introduced during the Open day of 2017 (March). The venue was near Old aerospace building, opposite to the Choksi Hall. Volunteers from different departments came together to perform around 45 experiments/demonstrations. The event was a phenomenal success which later proved to not only be a success but also managed to gain appreciations and inspirations for the young brains who visit the campus. Snaps from the event are available in the gallery below.
