Science for Rural India (SFRI) was founded in 2016 by a few passionate students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IISc, Bengaluru. They felt responsible and recognized the need for improving science education in rural India.
Since then, SFRI has conducted rural school science outreach sessions, hosted the "Kids' Zone" at IISc Open Day, created and translated school-level science content, and facilitated national outreach-groups networking. We also run the 'Mental Health Awareness' initiative and the 'Nurturing Buds' talk series.
After solidifying our structure at IISc, we expanded to rural areas near several IITs with support from the National Coordination Committee for PMRF. We're in the early stages at IITs nationwide, aiming to reach all rural areas through sustainable collaboration with IITs, NITs, IISERs, and other colleges.
